Pictorialism

Pictorialism is a trend in artistic photography which was developed before 1890 in England. It is based on the individual artist's interference in each print made by him, namely the break with the mechanical positive process. Instead of recording a photographic snapshot, a synthetic work of art is created. In photography, the artist uses fine art techniques such as: rubber, oil, and embossing. Photographs often resemble a pictorial image, drawing or graphic.
